Service Description
A radon test measures the concentration of radon gas in a building, typically a home. Radon is a naturally occurring, radioactive gas that forms when uranium in soil, rock, or water breaks down. It can seep into buildings through cracks in foundations, floors, or walls. Why a Radon Test Is Important: Health Risk: Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer after smoking. It’s odorless, tasteless, and invisible, so the only way to detect it is through testing. Levels can vary greatly even between neighboring homes. Many health organizations and building codes recommend or require testing during real estate transactions. How Radon Testing Works: There are two main types of tests: 1. Short-Term Tests Last 2 to 7 days. Commonly used for real estate transactions. Use activated charcoal canisters, electret ion detectors, or continuous radon monitors. Placed in the lowest livable level of the home (e.g., basement).
