Well recovery rate testing
Well recovery rate testing
Service Description
Well recovery rate testing measures how quickly a water well refills (recovers) after water has been drawn from it—usually during or after a pump test. It's an important indicator of the well’s capacity and sustainability for regular household or agricultural use. Why It Matters: Tells you how much water your well can reliably supply. Helps identify issues like a low-yielding aquifer, clogged screen, or overuse. Required in many real estate transactions or by lenders to verify adequate water supply. How It's Done: Drawdown Phase: Water is pumped from the well (usually for 1 hour or more), and the water level is recorded as it drops. Recovery Phase: Once pumping stops, the water level is monitored at intervals (e.g., every few minutes) as it rises back toward the static (original) level. Calculations: The recovery rate is usually expressed in gallons per minute (GPM) and reflects how quickly the well refills. Typical Acceptable Rates: 5 GPM or more is usually considered acceptable for a standard household. Less than 3 GPM may require water storage solutions or alternate sources. When It’s Needed: Buying or selling a home with a private well. Experiencing water pressure problems or shortages. Installing new water-intensive appliances (like irrigation systems).
