What Is a WETT Certification? It verifies that a wood-burning appliance (such as a wood stove, fireplace, or pellet stove) and its installation meet the required building codes and safety standards. Why It’s Important: Safety: Ensures the system is installed and functioning safely (preventing fire hazards or carbon monoxide risks). Insurance: Many insurance companies require a WETT inspection before insuring a home with a wood-burning unit. Home Sales: Required during real estate transactions when a home includes a wood-burning appliance. Code Compliance: Confirms that the system meets CSA B365 and other local building/fire codes. What’s Included in a WETT Inspection: Proper clearances from combustible materials Chimney condition and venting system Inspection of flue pipes, dampers, and fireboxes Installation setup (floor protection, wall shields, etc.) General appliance condition
